Perhaps it’s the Singaporean in me.
Walking around New York on Boxing Day, I passed by a street and noticed a surprisingly long line outside. Naturally, I had to find out what everyone was queueing for.
I asked around and some gen Z girls told me the café had gone viral for its Brown Butter Latte on tap.
Well, now I was curious, but it was freezing and I had to wait for at least 30 minutes.
As curious as I was, standing outside in the New York City winter for a cup of coffee wasn’t particularly appealing. So I abandoned the queue and escaped to % Arabica next door for some warmth instead.
Second Attempt: No Queue!
Later, close to lunchtime, I happened to walk past Caffè Paradiso again.
And surprisingly, the queue had disappeared. I scurried before everyone else had the same idea. But after all that talk about the famous Brown Butter Latte, I ended up ordering something completely different.
It was cold, I desperately needed something warm, and the Autumn Spice Latte caught my attention.
I’ll admit, I wasn’t expecting much. I’m generally not a huge fan of overly spiced seasonal drinks, and at this point my priority was really just having something hot to hold.
Then I took a sip and it was so good… the sweetness, texture was silky and yet preserving the aroma and taste of the coffee beans.
What I’d ordered mainly out of necessity turned into an unexpected surprise.

I headed off for a late brunch, at a lovely little spot just a few blocks away and continued exploring the neighbourhood.
After brunch, curiosity got the better of me. I walked past Caffè Paradiso again.
This time, there was a queue, but it looked manageable.
I’d already investigated the queue, abandoned the queue, returned to the café and somehow managed to order everything except the drink that had made the place famous.
I wasn’t leaving without trying it. So I stayed and ordered the Brown Butter Latte.
Was the Viral Brown Butter Latte Worth It?
The latte was incredibly smooth, with the brown butter adding a richness that made it taste completely different from your everyday latte.
I had gone into it slightly sceptical — viral food and drinks don’t always live up to the hype — but this one genuinely surprised me.
Would I stand outside freezing for ages to get one? Perhaps a 15-minute wait, yes, and I would get the Brown Butter Latte.
But if you’re visiting during autumn or winter, don’t overlook the seasonal drinks either. My Autumn Spice Latte had an unexpected highlight in its own right.
