Everything Icy

Recently, some of my peers have been asking for recommendations on eateries that they could bring their families and friends. It got me thinking that I could put up a list of cafes, restaurants I’ve been to AND have found them to be worth visited. It may not be in the best presentation, but hope it does give some insight on where you could possibly head to for some great bingsu, ice cream or bubble tea.

Bingsu Cafes

+82 Cafe

<update : They do not sell Bingsu here anymore>

Been here a couple of times and I have to admit its my must-go to bingsu cafe, if you are near Dhoby Ghaut.
The milk shavings literally melt in your mouth and the only phrase I could think of was – one spoon and it does take you to heaven.

Review: I have posted three bingsu that we have tried on instagram, take a look here.

Jinjja Chicken

There are two perks this restaurant has :

  • Its Halal certified
  • It has an extensive menu where you could snack on some fried chicken and Bingsu at an affordable price.

Review: Tried the bingsu and chicken.

O’ma Spoon

This place doesn’t need any introduction, majority of us would have heard or tried O’ma spoon.

Review: You may be spoilt for choice by their extensive menu, and yes most of their items are pretty good. They have recently launched the black sesame bingsu as well as the petit bingsu for those who would prefer to just have a cup of bingsu just for themselves. And yes, do take note, it can be crowded in the evenings.

Bubble Tea

Tiger Sugar

Once again, no formal introduction should be needed I believe. Weeks prior to the launch, my instagram feed was filled with Tiger Sugar and everyone was hyped up and when it was launched the queue was super long.

Review: Yes I gave in to the temptation and tried out their Boba Milk Tea for $5 which you can check it out right over here.

Jenjudan

This is a relatively new bubble tea brand in the local scene with a large offering of flavours. During lunch time, the queue is filled with office workers, so do try to avoid lunch hours 12-2pm.
Review: We tried the oreo brown sugar milk tea and it wasn’t to our liking. But I believe the other milk teas would have tasted better. Nonetheless, would still give it a second try.

Ice Cream

Kane Mochi

Kane Mochi has recently opened its second outlet at Jewel. The outlet at Bugis has no seating area, so I would say it models after the take-away concept. For those who are unfamiliar with Kane Mochi, it originates from Thailand and is ice cream ‘wrapped’ in glutinous rice.
Review: We got an opportunity to try out Kane Mochi and it was a unique experience to say.

Merely Ice-cream

Nestled away from the busy world, Merely Ice-cream is located at Sunshine Plaza. They do have another outlet at Tampines Hub.
Review: They have several interesting flavours that’s worth giving a try. This quaint and small cafe at Bencoolen, makes a good spot for late afternoon catch up with friends. Do check out here for our verdict on their salted butterscotch and seaweed.

The Daily Scoop

The cafe that breathes and lives ice-cream and makes ice cream in-house. They have four outlets across the island. Review: Tried out their HazelNut Avenue Ice-cream. Once I gave Honey Vanilla a try, it was a refreshing taste with a hint of honey. They have a large variety of flavours which I strongly recommend to try out their flavours.

Udders Ice Cream

Udders is a great late night hang out and has awesome puns. Apart from their ice-cream, their waffles are crispy and are always a must-eat.
Review: Went twice and tried similar flavours – Salted Speculoos (which tastes akin to salted caramel), Awesomely Chocolate and Earl Grey. In my opinion, the awesomely chocolate was pretty dense and you could skip this and try other flavours, while for earl grey it tasted like the tea itself with balanced sweetness.

Aqua S SG

Originating from Australia, this soft serve is located at Orchard MRT basement. They primarily have two flavours – sea salt and creme brulee. Every 15 days they have new interesting flavours.
Review: We tried half creme brulee and half sea-salt soft serve with marshmallow. Apart from just the soft serve with marshmallow, they also have cotton candy and caramel popcorn toppings which you should try it out.
