BBDC Refresher Course

Welcome back! Probably you’ve read through the previous posts on the experience at BBDC for Class 3A. Recently, I decided that its high time to hit the road and gain some confidence driving on the streets. I did some window shopping on Carousel for Refresher Course Instructors – found a few that quoted prices that were almost the cost of BBDC.

Since COVID-19, BBDC has evolved its operations and now you have to make an appointment to head down to the centre. It took me almost 3 weeks to get a 30minute slot on a Monday afternoon, and when I head down to the centre, I’d to show the email confirmation of the appointment, however they didn’t seem to be very strict about the time – that doesn’t mean you should go 2 hours earlier or 2 hours later, +-15min from the appointment time seemed acceptable.

Process of enrolling into the classes

At the counter, you will be asked to take a queue number and the wait could be about easily 1 hour. Each person takes close to 15minutes, and you can do the math to calculate the waiting time.

Once at the counter, you will be asked if you would like to get the insurance (for returning clients it will be complimentary a.k.a just take, don’t need to ask so many questions ok?), of course it’s a good practice to read through the clauses and what it covers etc. The counter staff will tell you the latest start date might be some time 1-2 months later, don’t be shocked (She is giving the theoretical answer based on the available lessons published on the portal), always probe to find out if you can get earlier slots from try-sell or cancellations (the answer is yes, given if you spend time to look at the portal once in a while for cancelled slots).

The staff will run through on how to log in to use the booking portal, how to cancel / book slots, and top up for lessons (better pay attention if you are not a BBDC customer before). Remember that you can’t cancel your lessons 2 hours prior to start time (so plan earlier).

So what are they gonna teach you? Here is the course outline, it’s pretty structured and you should be able to finish in 4-6 lessons based on your progress.

Most importantly – how much did it cost?

It is the same as the practical lessons for motorcar classes.

After that you will make payment and that’s it! Of course, if you manage to find a lesson that day you can stay on otherwise, stay tuned to find out how my lessons went in the next post.
